Spaying & Neutering

Spaying & Neutering for Dogs, Cats & Rabbits

Spaying and neutering are common procedures performed on dogs, cats and rabbits to make it impossible to reproduce. Spaying is used to describe the female surgery that removes the ovaries and uterus, while neutering is typically related to the male version of the procedure. There is no limit as to when you can spay or neuter your pet, but healing-wise, it may be less complicated to have the procedure done while they are young.

Why It’s Important to Spay or Neuter Your Pet

With such an overpopulation of dogs, rabbits and cats who don’t have happy homes, spaying and neutering limits the possibility of adding to that number. In terms of health and behavior, spaying and neutering can help your pet live a happier, healthier, and longer life. Females that are not spayed are at an increased risk for developing breast cancer and males that are not neutered may have certain behavioral issues which can be suppressed by neutering. Dogs that are not neutered are also at a higher risk of developing testicular tumors and other tumors seen around the anal area which can be very painful and will require surgery to remove.
